Burris Fastfire III 3 MOA & 8 MOA Red Dot Also keep in mind that with a SFP scope, 1 MOA doesn't always equal 1 MOA it is only true at a specific magnification as set by the manufacturer, usually the maximum. A BDC can be advantageous if your gun shoots the same ammo and velocity as what the scope was calibrated for and you want to use holdovers instead of dialing your adjustments. Precision shooters don't use a BDC because they aren't accurate enough and they dial their scope for shots anyway. It all depends what you want to do with the gun. It uses a system of divisions that are not standard but unique to the caliber and velocity based on ballistic trajectory at spificic distances. A Bullet Drop Compensated BDC reticle is calibrated to an approximate caliber and velosity combination. Both measuring systems are used for range estimation and holdover calculation in both the range and windage axis. MOA and MRAD are standardized measuring systems think of it like Metric vs. Neither version of this scope has a BDC built in. The BDC will be better for close range 100-400 yards, best on even range intervals, and best on bigger targets. If you are going to push distances beyond the BDC or towards the top end of the BDC, the Christmas tree will be better. A Christmas Tree is going to be a lot more precise and allow for better followup shot correction and condition interpretation. Why would you want one or the other? Well, a BDC is going to be alot less precise, but allow for faster/easier cold bore shots with less memorization. BDCs are overwhelmingly used by hunters and newer shooters and are discouraged in LR shooting. MOA reticles/turrets are most often used by hunters and newer shooters because most entry level and hunting scopes traditionally came with 1/4" or MOA turrets. Christmas trees are overwhelmingly used by LR shooters and aren't that common outside of that domain. MIL reticles are overwhelmingly used in LR shooting. They are targeting 2 different types of shooters. You can make all the difference in someone's life.
